Lepanthes, Orchid
Lepanthes is a genus of orchids in the family Orchidaceae, comprising about 700 species. It is distributed in the Antilles island and from Mexico through Bolivia, with several species in Brazil. The genus is abbreviated as Lths in horticultural trade. The name Lepanthes is derived from Greek word, meaning scaled flower. It is commonly known as Babyboot Orchid. Lepanthes species produce a small flower on a single leaf. The flowers are successive and have a unique lip. Lepanthes species grow well in a moist mix of fine bark or sphagnum moss. The plants should be water regularly to keep the medium moist, and require shade and cool to warm temperatures, depending on species. ![]() Lepanthes guatemalensis Author: Moises Béhar (Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0-unported) | ||
